I personally believe that the word “pee” came about the sound that you make when you’re peeing.
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee………….
O.K., so maybe it didn’t. Do you have any other ideas?
Every once in a while, I am forced to pee when there are other people around. In a public restroom, at a friend’s house, etc. But every time I do, I try very hard to avoid making the sound of liquid falling on more liquid. I just find it awkward that other people can hear the sound of my urine hitting the toilet water.
People imagine you peeing when they hear you pee.
Think about this: when you can hear something, but can’t see it, don’t you tend to visualize it? I don’t want people visualizing my urination session. Besides, some people are skilled enough to figure out how much longer you will be peeing based on the tone of the peeing noise. So what do I do to prevent it? I aim at the inner part of the toilet bowl wall above the water level (because I can —sorry ladies). It works most of the time!
Which reminds me, different genders have different views about this. All I know is that I’ve heard that sound coming from both men and women, and I was a bit surprised to find out that they’re very different:
Men: Constant stream, slower stream, drip, drip, flush.
Women: Splash, splash, stream, splash, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, *tearing of toilet paper sound*, long pause, flush.
Talk about complicated..

Love the picture!
heyy women do not take that long 🙂 and yes, the peeing sound is awkward….when the restroom is experiencing pin drop silence and there are people waiting for you to come out!!! Embarassing…
I love that you talk about all these things. I too feel the need to talk about things most don’t. To answer your question…perhaps the word “pee” came from penis? I use words like penis and vagina and don’t feel awkward at all…and I have kids, they know the names of their body parts. But I have heard many little boys call their penis their “pee-pee”. Perhaps this came from parent’s who were too uncomfortable teaching them the word penis? Or maybe the word penis came from noticing that peeee sound you speak of. Huh. It’s kind of like the question, which came first, the chicken or the egg.
It came from penis.. pee pee.. those are pretty good ideas, actually. I’m glad there’s someone else that puts thought into things like these, thanks mahra!
Edwin 🙂
I always have to cover my ears when I pee in a public bathroom… lol
That bad?! Hahaha
Edwin
I also try to aim to the inner part of the toilet bowl and may I say, I have been pretty successful and I’m a girl. Now, if I’m in a rush and there is a line waiting, I get a good amount of toilet paper and throw it in the toilet bowl, that way there won’t be a liquid hitting liquid noise lol
LOL! Oh my God, you can actually differentiate the sound of women and men peeing!?? Hahaha. It does feel awkward, indeed. I always find it more comfy if there’s no one around when I pee, hahaha.
I’m like a ninja when I go. If someone asks if I went… I tell them, “I’ve acheived ninja status”
There should be no wiping, or flushing of this EVER.
