Has anybody ever asked you to show them how to do something that you’re very good at doing? Like how to do a trick on a skateboard, like the figurine in the picture on the left?
Maybe you’re not a skateboarder. . maybe you’re a writer! Or a good fisherman. An expert hunter, or a musician.
So you agree to show them how to do this thing that you’re “good” at. You think to yourself Yeah, I finally get to teach somebody how its done. Time to show off my skills. For this example, let’s say its something basic, like showing your teenager how to drive:
“Alright kid, let me show you how to drive.” you might say.
And so you get on the driver’s seat, and begin to show them the basics. The defrosters, how to use the blinkers, how to honk the horn, etc.
“And now, you start your engine like this” you say as you turn the key.
Clink! Clink!
“Oh great,” you think to yourself. You’re supposed to know this stuff! And now you’re starting to get a bit nervous knowing that someone is depending on you to show them how its done.
Humm!! Rrrmm! (Assume that’s the sound an engine makes)
There we go. Phew, close one there.
“So then you put your foot on the brake and you –“
Squeak! .. squeaaak! Thump. Thump. CRASH!
“–HOLY^&*%, PIECE OF S*** I CAN’T &*(%^ BELIEVE THIS IS. . AHH, NO!!”
You accidentally let go of the brake. And now you crashed into a tree. Good job. You told this kid that you’ve been driving for how long? Forget the damage to the vehicle, think about how awkward the situation is now.
“You’re supposed to be good at this.”
Awkward.

Whaha, yeah I know that awkward feeling.
That’s why I TRY to not show I’m good at something, because somehow I always end up having failed, haha.
Hey you’re switching back to the old themes! :O
Well, I’ve had this experience before, and it’s really awful. Afterwards, every time someone asked me to give them examples of something, I would say that I’m still learning as well, but I know some things they don’t, but again, I’m also learning, still. Hahaha. To avoid embarrassment, I guess. Except for English and grammar. I’m a teacher, and to say that to my student would only make me lose credibility (hence would make me a stupid and bad teacher! Hahaha).
Hmm excessive pride helps in such situation .Being cynical also helps .
Hmm…not really Awkward, awkward.
“It just didn’t go right. Big Deal!” thats what I tell myself.

Just. Laugh. It. Off.
I’m kind of the same as JLynn. I don’t like showing off at things I’m good at because, besides not wanting to be a show-off, I usually epic fail…. >_<
Yeah, I one time tried to show off my ability to crack an egg with one hand (i know.. ooooh!! ahhh…) and i failed. all dramatically, too. it popped, exploded in my hand and made a mess.
darn it.
Oh, and huzzah for the old theme back! It’s easier to read and navigate this way! ^_^
