..after going back to school from summer break.
I remember spending my summers at home, watching television, hanging out, always trying to have “the best summer ever” (which always ended up being average for some reason), but I don’t remember ever picking up a pencil or a pen to do any form of writing because I didn’t have to!
Besides, after writing and reading about things that we’re not fully interested in for 9 months out of the year, who in the right mind would want to pick up a pen and write an essay?
After going back to school, we pull out our notebooks,
Whoa, that feels weird..
take out our pens,
How the heck do I hold this thing again?
and take good notes.
Oh, what?! That is NOT my writing. I can barely read that stuff.
And as we write, we notice that our hand is experiencing a major workout. Poor hand muscles have been deteriorating for the whole summer due to lack of practice. And now we have to get buff hands all over again. I just think that the feeling itself, of holding a writing tool after not using one for months, is just so strange . . . so weird. . . so . . . awkward.

Okay, I’m laughing because after I read your post, I glance over at the new sidebar icons very bold and noticed in smaller font “NOT FEATURED IN”
hahahah! ๐ How can that be possible, your stuff’s great!
As for the pencil/pen thing- you bet! I never use a writing instrument at home, when I have a keyboard. However, the other day I had to help my 5 year old daughter grip the pencil correctly, and I had to look at instructions. Wait, your thumb goes here and your fingers here, oh wait…no move that a bit. I grabbed one of those things you put on the pencil with indentations of where the thumb/fingers go…but it still took a minute and by that point, my child lost interest.

**DOWN 10LBS IN 2 WEEKS, I’ve discovered a great program that works. Know of anyone wanting/needing to lose a few (many?) pounds? Send ’em my way and check out my health blog posts.
LOL pretty random, isn’t it? Thanks!
Ahh! What if she becomes one of those awkward-pencil-holders? I’ve seen people that grip a pencil between the thumb and ALL the fingers!
My handwriting is terrible now. Now that I type so much.
Dreading going back to school. My handwriting is going to suck.
TRUE STORY!
I was home sick from school when cursive writing was taught, so I usually print everything and still have poor penmanship. The only things I used to note (and mean to note it) were formulae, otherwise, I only copied things that teachers wrote on chalkboards so that they wouldn’t think I was not paying attention.
At the same time, I was not a good academic role model. ๐
Hahaha!! That is SO true! I remember when I was in school, going back on the first day was so weird…it felt like I had never held a pencil in my life and I would always keep dropping the stupid thing!
Loved this post! ๐
Thanks! It gets tiring to hold a pencil .. unbelievable.
LOL. Well I’ve never really had this experience before, but I did forget how to spell the word “I”. I had to call a teacher over and have them write it out for me… awkward. >,<
“I type my notes, dude.” LOL!
